Job description


A new opportunity has just become available in our Outdoor Buying Department for a resilient, innovative and resourceful Merchandiser who can add value to our Outdoor Equipment Team through the successful development and procurement of products within selected categories of outdoor equipment for Cape Union Mart .

In addition to product range development and selection, this role is responsible for the financial management of the categories by assuming the planning duties of the selected categories. Our ideal candidate will have high energy levels required for this fast-paced, exciting and dynamic retail environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Buying
  • Execution of the merchandise strategy in alignment with the departmental and business objectives
  • Range building and selection of product relevant to existing and emerging trends both locally and internationally
  • Effectively collaborating with the relevant stakeholders and departments to produce merchandise strategies and present range plans
  • Building and maintaining relationships with new and current suppliers
  • Negotiate and manage supplier contracts and agreements

Planning
  • Driving of the business strategy by the management of sales and stock budgets in order to achieve set financial KPI’s
  • Thorough analysis and reporting on key strategies
  • Replenishment of product through allocations and orders from suppliers
  • Deliver and implement post seasonal analysis, strategic planning, range & assortment planning


Requirements


Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications Required
  • Grade 12 certificate and a relevant tertiary qualification is required
  • 3-5 years of retail merchandise buying experience
  • Sound numerical ability
  • Working knowledge of the retail cycle and merchandise buying and planning principles and processes
  • A clear understanding of the local and international outdoor industry
  • A working knowledge of the latest Microsoft packages is required with a focus on advanced Microsoft Excel skills
