An independent, global advertising/communications agency with offices in London, Milan, Hamburg, Shanghai, San Francisco and now Johannesburg is on the hunt for a dynamic Managing Partner/Managing Director with a track record of excellence to lead their growing team.
The agency, known for brilliant strategic and creative work across channels, boasts a high-profile founding South African client, and we are looking for an entrepreneurial Managing Partner, MD to join their other two Managing Partners (Creative and Strategy) in leading and growing the business. Their first priority is to deliver exceptional service for their lead client, and ensure they have multi-tiered and strong relationships across the board to complement a body of outstanding work. Their second priority will be to develop and implement a business plan to grow the business in the African market.
To be the perfect fit for the agency’s existing, established global network, the right candidate will need to be collaborative, yet able to work autonomously. We’re looking for a ‘can-do’ person who takes a considered approach to solving challenges. Someone who will not only have a positive impact on the agency, but on the advertising industry as a whole – championing the agency within the community by raising their profile through quality work and PR. As such you will need to have a strong command of both business and communication strategy and will be able to engage and inspire their team and clients.
Working with an ECD and Strategic Lead, we are looking for a highly experienced person able to deliver the day-to-day work to an exceptional standard, build a department, all whilst balancing the commercials and workload. The agency’s founding client is known for their award-winning creative work, so someone who can sustain and continue to deliver the same or better level of excellence is essential. Is that you?
Responsibilities
Management
  • Develop and build the agency team along with a set of operational processes that integrates each department seamlessly
  • Strong capability in building successful client relationships with the ability to partner at the highest levels of the client organisation?
  • Strong knowledge of building Business/Group capabilities – e.g., Creative, Digital, Design
  • Strong personal industry network?
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to drive efficiencies and productivity?
  • Ability to support high-quality output, with adherence to client and agency systems and processes?.

Talent management
  • Ability to engage and inspire a team behind a client vision, strategy and plan?
  • Oversee recruitment of the team where necessary and building of the black book network
  • Foster a culture of professional development.

New business development and pitches
  • Develop and drive the new business strategy
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to flex style based on client needs
  • Lead pitch process along with creative and strategic leads across all departments and ensure all work is on track strategically.

Live projects
  • Oversee campaign management of all projects and their day to day running of the agency
  • Ensure all new accounts are set up correctly
  • Ensure rigorous legal processes followed with governing bodies along with regular debriefs to team on legislative developments.
  • Ensure the team abides by all internal sign off processes.

Finance and business affairs
  • Work with the finance team to oversee all financial elements of the business including contracts, invoicing, payment plans, WIP internal process and any internal review points.

PR
  • Identify and manage timely trade and consumer PR opportunities and develop an ‘always on’ strategy to build the reputation of the business in Africa and internationally.

Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:
  • Suitable Industry related degree
  • 10+ years’ experience or equivalent in the Advertising space
  • Track record of developing and maintaining excellent relationships with clients, exceeding targets and expectations?
  • Conversant with and experienced in Digital and Integrated Marketing
  • Experienced in running and winning pitches?
  • Cross medium creative awareness and understanding of new technologies?
  • Gravitas with a strong work ethic and desire to be the best in a competitive environment?
  • Demonstrable experience of building multi-layered client relationships and growing global brands?
  • Passionate about the Advertising industry and delivering high quality creative work?
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and influencing skills?
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing?
  • Excellent ability to self-manage and work on own initiative.
