We have a fabulous job opportunity for a Creative Services Manager to lead the internal creative team at one of South Africa’s legendary gaming, hospitality, and entertainment brands headquartered in Johannesburg. The client is looking to interview candidates with strong advertising industry/design industry experience and management skills – read good “team dynamic management” experience. The successful candidate will have the privilege of guiding the creative team behind the gaming, hospitality and entertainment giant working with all its exceptional properties across South Africa. We’re looking for an exceptional individual to take responsibility and accountability of the leadership and management of this design studio team in delivering content across the creative life cycle (including overseeing the pipeline of brainstorming, assignment, production, editing, and publication/execution) with the aim of driving increased traffic and brand visibility, delivering against project briefs, and company standards.
The role encompasses Creative Services, Operations, stakeholder relationships & people management the role will also focus on building and enabling solid and engaged creative design talent to support innovative and sustainable business operations and enable the vision for the Group into the future. You will manage the creation and editing processes and team to produce graphic, digital and video design for multiple communication touchpoints for business units across the Group. You’ll also produce a budget and control expenses for the creative design content against a larger departmental budget, and achievement of revenue from order requests.
This role is the creative arm of the Business Support Division who lead innovation and business technology to enable the optimal use of digitisation, systems and processes to support the business in the achievement of objectives and provide insights into new revenue and value-producing opportunities.  The candidate and his team will be tasked with delivering meaningful, quality, and relevant print and digital content and design campaigns from conceptualisation to publication.

Delivered Graphic & Digital Design Plans
  • Facilitate the functioning of the organisation’s internal creative design “agency” to develop and deliver creative artwork to support marketing across business functions for the Group, including digital creative and assets
  • Keep up to date with current and future design methodologies and marketing strategies in the business and creative and animation design environments
  • Provide innovative solutions for the delivery of marketing services objectives
  • Benchmark current graphic and digital animation design content and methodologies against future strategic requirements
  • Understand market segment and customers characteristics and preferences
  • Develop plans for generating meaningful content to drive increased traffic, engagement and brand visibility
  • Conceptualise, plan and ensure synergies are created between design content for various projects
  • Lead the implementation of design strategies through editorial calendars across all relevant marketing channels and platforms
  • Conducts Financial Viability and Feasibility Studies with regards implementation
  • Introduce graphic and animation tools, and access to relevant content that enable a series of creative opportunities for marketing services
  • Influences present and future products, services, platforms and content management by determining and evaluating current and future market trends.
  • Clearly define and delegate plans, authority and accountability across the team
  • Manage people and non-people resources to ensure team effectiveness
  • Measure the success of campaigns and platforms through analytics and provide reports and insights in this regard.

Managed Creative Design Production
  • Interpret the client’s brief and establish vision for a project or deliverable
  • Lead brainstorming sessions and creation of concepts
  • Lead design teams in the development of concepts and execution of all projects to create exceptional visual style & tone for a range of projects
  • Collaborate on UX and wireframe executions with other members of the team to provide insight into how the project will work
  • Work closely with creatives and developers to ensure the solidity of designs and highest level of quality is maintained at all times
  • Translate complex ideas into beautiful visual executions that make them easier to understand
  • Actively lead/participate in every aspect of creative design and development of Copywriting, Graphic design, Web and email design and Layout
  • Commission, edit and proofread content as required ensuring it meets style, tone and marketing message requirements, as well as reflecting the brand
  • Oversee the development, creation and deployment of designs for multiple projects
  • Oversee the writing of sharp, edgy and enticing dynamic copy
  • Attends occasional events to support real-time and wrap-up coverage
  • Present creative ideas/concepts to clients in a compelling and clear manner.

People Management
  • Manage staff conditions of employment
  • Identification of employee training needs
  • Perform on the job training and coaching to close developmental gaps and build succession for a talent pipeline within the outlet
  • Manage employee relations within the department
  • Staff communication and motivation
  • Performance contracting, reviews and development
  • Provides resources and removes obstacles to performance
  • Recruit and resource for talent for positions within the department
  • Onboarding of new staff members.

Budget Management
  • Manage the financial budget and control of costs for the creative function, including budget, revenue maximisation and cost management
  • Estimate creative development costs
  • Approve selection of subcontract resources and negotiate terms when required.

Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Establish appropriate levels of coordination, communication and liaison with stakeholders
  • Liaise with the business units and Group marketing on content produced for various projects
  • Maintain regular communication with project and accounts managers on project development, timelines, and results
  • Verify with business management that the content will meet business requirements
  • Build effective relationships with commercial/brand/technical teams and content creators.
  • Engage with clients as a senior member of account team to help establish trust with client and confidence in the creative team’s capabilities
  • Write and present cohesive and persuasive rationales for campaign approaches.

Know How
  • Requires specialised theoretical knowledge and processes relating to creative design practices, processes and regulations
  • Medium term planning 12 -24 months involves conducting the planning of design content to meet and optimise new business targets and growth
  • Organise, plan and prioritise tasks for self and team to ensure that work gets done profitably and efficiently
  • Interact with stakeholders and team - influencing, motivating and encouraging specific behaviour.

  • Apply business acumen and sound common sense to the overall management of creative content design

The successful candidate must have/be:
  • 3-Year Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Visual Communications or Marketing
  • 10 years’ agency experience following a path through the ranks of the industry from designer / copywriter through to management levels
  • Experience should include at least 5 years in a supervisory / management capacity within a creative environment
  • A proven blend of creative design and management, ability to generate creative ideas, coupled with sound editorial judgement, preferably obtained in an agency environment
  • A proven track record of managing successful creative design and multi-discipline teams
  • Must be willing to be hands on in some areas of implementation especially when it comes to quality review, audits and testing
