The Head of CMP will have overall responsibility for creating and implementing the AHRI’s marketing, communications, and public engagement strategies in accordance with the organization’s strategy and business objectives. This includes strategically positioning AHRI within South Africa’s national system of innovation, the same for AHRI’s international position, and overseeing all strategic engagements with external audiences, key stakeholders, and institutional partners. The Head of Communications, Marketing, and Partnerships will be a public relations officer for the institute and will oversee all media engagements on institutional matters.
The Head of CMP is expected to lead the development of “AHRI” into a respected brand and reliable partner by:
•the research communities and South African public,
•stakeholders and policymakers in the public and private sector, and
•national and international research collaborators and partners
inline with institutional vision, values, and objectives.
The successful candidate will be based in our Durban Research Campus with frequent travel to our Somkhele Research Campus in Mtubatuba.
1.Master’s Degree in a related field
1.5 years of experience in a senior leadership position with responsibility for communications, marketing, and partnerships; the management of brand and visual identity (e.g., via market research) internally and externally, ideally at a complex organization like AHRI at a senior management level.
2.Demonstrable experience in promoting an organization through effective media relations, including pro-active campaigns and reactive reputation management.
3.Experience in the use of digital platforms and technologies from content to technical issues; Extensive experience in editorial management, overseeing the development of online content, print publications, and copywriting on behalf of institutional leaders.
4.Experience in understanding best practice and research into the effectiveness of public engagement and knowledge of how research organizations contribute to the generation of knowledge and societal impact.
5.Experience in people management and ability to deliver operational requirements of a given function.
6.Experience in managing multiple third-party delivery partners
1.Ability to develop sustainable relationships and influence a broad range of stakeholders.
2.Fluent in Zulu and English speaking and writing
3.Managing budgets at a senior management level
4.High competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
5.Must be able to work under pressure;
