Job descriptionThe role of the merchandising assistant is to support the merchandise manager in the daily execution of the manager’s tasks. The merchandising assistant is called upon to perform tasks that keep the merchandising department as a whole operating smoothly, mainly through executing the instructions given by the merchandising manager.
The merchandising assistant will need to keep up to date on past and present information coming in from multiple sources and accurately relay on and respond to the relevant parties. The merchandising assistant must also be able filter and process all of the information and communication on a continual basis. The merchandising assistant will need be comfortable with a variety of computer software programs, as they will need to enter information into computer systems for the merchandising managers’ reference as well as be able to maintain an orderly and logical folder structure for the purposes of information storage and retrieval.
The merchandising assistant must be able to take initiative where required, as well as follow instructions when given. It is vital that the merchandising assistant can efficiently manage multiple tasks at once and have the ability to gauge or rank the importance of tasks and make sure to carry out these tasks completed within the deadlines outlined.
·Communicate with buyers and suppliers via phone and email.
·Liaise between internal departments to maintain timelines and provide the best service to buyers.
·Compile accurate spreadsheet based on gathering and recording all required product data for recordkeeping and for the merchandising manager’s reference.
·Perform various administrative jobs accurately and efficiently.
·Solving problems when unforeseen circumstances arise.
·Managing time well in order to complete a variety of tasks.
·Prepare and process all purchase orders for brand.
·Monitor all purchase orders and ensure delivery within the set timeframe.
·Receiving and dispatching deliveries of fabric and trimmings.
·Maintain effective communication and good relations with various departments, both internal and external.
·Ability to source fabrics from suppliers.
·Competency in all computer packages, i.e. Outlook, Excel (Advanced), PowerPoint, Internet.

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, primarily in English.
